My Hijab Story - How I Started Using Hijab

Assalamu alaikum all.

In this post, I will be talking about my hijab story.

My hijab story is nothing much fancy. As a kid, I was attending an Islamic school until I was 6 years old. Our school uniform was a Pardha, can you believe it. And of course, I was wearing the Pardha to and from school and the rest of the time I will be in frocks. Family wise, my parents/relatives weren't much religious. Neither Salah/appropriate Islamic way of clothing was maintained in the family. The scarf/the shall be lying either on the shoulders or on the head (with a major part of the hair visible)

After I turned 7, I changed my school. And this was the turning point of my life. Okay, I had to mention this - even when I was wearing a scarf above head (not a hijab). I would make sure to place the shall back over the top of my head whenever it went down.

At around the age of 12-13, we had an Arabic & Quran teacher who was from Sudan. She was a sweet lady but also had a set of strict rules for us as well. So one day she asked us to make sure that not even a single hair strand of ours is out from our scarf.

She, on the other hand, made sure that she points out the hair out of our scarf and punish as well. So what we would do was to put our scarf properly and check with our friends if the hair is visible in the back or not etc, during her class hour.

So one fine day, she appointed a spy from our class who would check our hair when we would be no way thinking about it. And this Spy person would submit the list of names whose hair is visible.

I have a silky kind of hair, which would no way settle in a bun. The hair would somehow come out no matter what all I do then. And one day, the spy friend came in and called out our names during the recess hours. She said Arabic teacher wants to meet you, girls, now.

I went in, wondering what is happening. I was all in fear.

When we went there, we understood why she called us. Though the teachers usually don't use any sticks/things to punish us. She had a large ruler in her hand. With the ruler, she gives one slap right on our backs.
I was just so sad that I hated the spy and this teacher to the most. I asked myself why does she do that? I have worn a headscarf, my head is covered - what does she lose if some of my hair is out!

And that was when I decided to Google it. And that answered a lot of questions. Since I was in a girl's only school, and my father would drop and pick me right from the doorsteps - it was actually easier to cover myself.

I wouldn't say from then on, I took up the hijab! My way to hijab was really on a moderate speed but I can tell you that my hijab has become a part of myself. I thank the spy and the teacher for I feel naked without hijab now and I would run & immediately wrap myself in my shall if someone comes home without a warning.
So this is my hijab story.

Tell me yours in the comment below.

And if you're not a hijabi, you should know why isn't it enough to simply place a scarf over your head. There's a reason for hijab! And I suggest you to Google it and find it out yourself because, when you learn it with your own efforts - you'll get into its essence better.

That was today's post.
